Mark y David son amigos y experimentados fotógrafos de guerra y se encuentran capturando imágenes de un Kurdistán desgarrado por la guerra. Mark es muy ambicioso y quiere seguir los combates unos días más, buscando la foto del año, pero David está harto de polvo, desesperanza y violencia y le deja para regresar a casa con su mujer embarazada. Cuando Mark regresa a casa ensangrentado y lleno de hematomas, se sorprende, aunque en principio no se muestra preocupado al saber que David no ha logrado volver a casa. Elena, la mujer de Mark, está preocupada por los dos. Mark está exhausto, desorientado y es incapaz de reasumir su antigua vida en Dublín.
