Drama basado en el boxeador "Irish" Mickey Ward (Mark Wahlberg), considerado todo un gladiador de los junior welter y su trayectoria inverosímil para proclamarse campeón del mundo de los pesos ligeros. La carrera de Ward no fue nada fácil, fue apoyada por su hermanastro Dicky, un ex-boxeador convertido en entrenador que consiguió escapar del mundo de las drogas y el crimen y al que dará vida Bale.
